- Study the list of suggested research topics and supervisors. Note that the topics are typically envisaged as PhD projects. However, many topics could be re-worked (or cut down) to an MPhil /MRes project. For example, the supervisor might have in mind three linked experiments or studies for a full PhD, and you could do the first one as an MPhil. It’s therefore essential that you contact the lead supervisor of the ONE topic that most interests you and ask them if it could be an MPhil or MRes. If they agree, they will likely ask you to send them a written outline. If the supervisor(s) like this, then they can help you to expand it into a strong proposal.
- After discussing your project with your potential supervisor, you should apply through the Salford PGR system.
- You must state that you are applying for LAURA funding in your application use the drop-down list in the portal to select Leverhulme Scholarships in the Finance box
- Your application via the portal must include:
- 2000-word research proposal
- Degree certificate
- Transcript
- A personal statement outlining your research training so far and how this will equip you for postgraduate research. (For example your dissertation project might have used relevant methods, etc.)
- Referee details
Advice on how to write your proposal. This is geared toward PhD proposals, but the essential elements of literature review, research question(s), proposed method(s) and timeline are still needed for MPhil / MRes.
Informal enquiries about specific research topics subjects should be made to the supervisor. General enquiries about LAURA and the application process should be made to see-laura@salford.ac.uk
