Facilities and research environment
As a LAURA student, you can use a broad range of research facilities, as appropriate to your project. These include:
- World-class acoustics laboratories, including listening rooms, reverberation rooms, anechoic chambers, an accredited calibration laboratory and state of the art equipment and instrumentation.
- A large array of music, performance and creative facilities, including recording studios, studio theatre and multiple amplified music spaces.
- Psychology research facilities, including EEG, fNIRS & VR.
- Maker space, including 3D printers, laser cutters and other fabrication services.
LAURA students can get inspiration and support from strong teams of active researchers in several associated research centres. This is where you might find some informal coding help, a buddy to help with field data collection, or inspiration for a side project:
- The Acoustics Research Centre, which hosts many funded projects, friendly postdocs, another CDT in sustainable sound futures and a weekly research seminar.
- The Applied Cognition Group, where we share expertise, and generally offer a supportive environment for research. Group meetings occur every three weeks.
LAURA students have a physical office and kitchen facilities in Newton building on the main campus.
